Ola Ka Hā, Hula Photographs by Kai Markell

Native Hawaiian attorney Kai Markell is a man who truly loves his job. In his work at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Kai helps to protect and preserve the traditional cultural landscape and practices. He attends as many Native Hawaiian events as he can to participate with pule (prayer) and chant and to photographically capture and document the events to sustain the mana long after the event is over. Hula is one of his favorite subjects to photograph.

Pūpū A ʻO ʻEwa is proud of feature Kaiʻs photographs of the dancers of Hālau Kalikopuaokalaniākea, Kumu Hula Kapua Dalire.  Taken on March 29, 2015, these images help to document the 2nd Annual Ola Ka Hā (the Essence of the Native Hawaiian People Shall Live), a benefit concert for ʻIolani Palace and a celebration of Native Hawaiian arts, history and culture.

Pūpū A ʻO ʻEwa is proud to feature these hula photographs by Kai Markell in honor of the Merrie Monarch Festival this week in Hilo and Hālau Kalikopuaokalaniākea,  We think you, too, will feel the mana through these photographs.
