Gallery: He Kai Mālie, He Kai Puʻeone

The first discoverers of the Hawaiian Archipelago, Native Hawaiians have continued to inhabit these islands for thousands of years prior to Western contact. The sea has played an important role to Native Hawaiians as it is used for resources and physical and spiritual sustenance in our everyday lives.

The photos in this gallery, He Kai Mālie, He Kai Puʻeone (Gentle Sea, Rough Sea) by Leeward Cc student Ikaika Anderson feature the sea in its rough and gentle manifestations, catching the sun as it slowly creeps into night and then awakens the next day.
