Gallery: Kuhiawaho

In addition of being the Hawaiian language professor at Leeward Community College, Kumu ʻIokepa Badis is an avid photographer whose photos have a distinct Hawaiian point of view.

This week Pūpū A ʻO ʻEwa is pleased to present Part 2 of our focus on Kuhiawaho, a two-acre loʻi kalo located makai of our campus. (Click here for Part 1, A Video by Mauna Burgess and Dariq Murray.)   Kumu Kepaʻs photos of Kuhiawaho capture the urban oasis that Ron Ron Fitzgerald, a teacher at Wai’anae High School, and his wife, Sammie A’i, a counselor at Ke Kula O Samuel M. Kamakau Hawaiian language immersion school, have created right here in Puʻuloa. A local food source and a place to reconnect with the ʻāina, Kuhiawaho offers a Hawaiian sense of place right in our own backyard.
