Iona Kaʻai is a student at Leeward Community College who plans to be an elementary school teacher in her hometown of Nānākuli, Oʻahu. An artist and writer, Iona considers herself a modern moʻo — a strong woman who is anchored in Native Hawaiian traditions and is working for a better future. “Love Affair” is one of the entries of her diary. Her work earned Honorable Mention honors in the Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo Native Hawaiian Writing and Arts Achievement Awards.
