Pōhai Medeiros is a graduate of Leeward Community College and a Ke Ala ʻIke Scholar of the Collegeʻs Hālau ʻIke O Puʻuloa. She is currently a student at the University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu and although hails from Manana. she now lives in Hōʻaeʻae in the ʻEwa district.
A fluent speaker of the Hawaiian language, Pōhai wrote this story, Kā Kamahaʻo Mea Pāʻani, for her son, now five years old, a fun-loving little boy who loves to play with his toys (and her iPad). This story was awarded a Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo Native Hawaiian Writing and Arts Achievement Award. As you read along and listen to the beauty of the language, we at Pūpū A ʻO ʻEwa are sure you will experience this motherʻs love for her child, a love Pōhai describes as palena ʻole – without limits.
